600+ Islands. Because of Lake Winnipeg shallowness, its water is emptied and replenished every 3-4 years. This replacement and regeneration makes it one of the most fertile fishing lakes in the World.

A boat from Poplar River River with a crew of three capsized on Lake Winnipeg yesterday. The crew was going to pick up bouys on the Lake to clear up before winter when they ran into engine trouble.

UNESCO World Heritage Site on east side of Lake Winnipeg

As part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site nomination on the east side of Lake Winnipeg. Manitoba's Natural Resources Minister Stan Struthers and his Ontario counterpart joined forces today to protect an area in both provinces. One of the goals of this plan is to better protect the woodland caribou that live in this region.
