For those of you who like fresh mushrooms, now is the season to go out for picking. Best mushrooms to pick this time of year are: Chanterelle. Unlike other mushrooms Chanterelle are easy to recognise. They are bright yellow, and grow in a funnel shape.

They also do not have a sponge underneath like many other funghi, but have fins.

Mixed with eggs and onions they can be fried and served as meal on their own with bread or toast. They also go well with roasts or as in a gravy for dumplings or potatoes.

A good place for mushroom picking this time of year is Elk Island
