Some more Culex tarsalis mosquitoes found in Manitoba
The fact that mosquito traps caught a few more just proves that they are there and they are here to stay. Nobody seriously believes that we will ever be able to get rid of mosquitoes in Manitoba. So don’t hope that all the spraying in the World will rid us of: Culex tarsalis or West Nile Virus.

Are there fire pits at Patricia Beach?
I told him that I was currently travelling in Germany and the call was being forwarded, but I was pretty sure that the park had picnic fascilities and fire pits. None the less, I just checked it up on the Web. Patricia Beach Provincial Park has fire pits!

More sun but higher UV index for the next days
Over exposure to the UV rays of our sun can lead to sun burns, which in turn are partly blaimed for skin cancer – melanoma. So let’s play it safe, wear a hat at the beach and no skinning dipping before sunset!

Victoria Beach Police serving at Idle Thyme a success
The Victoria Beach Police waited on tables at the Idle Thyme Restaurant last weekend. This was part of a fund raiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation. The fund-raiser was a success. Abot 1800 Dollars were collected to be donated to the Foundation.

Blackouts and power outages after high winds
For most of us in this area the outages only lasted for a few hours. Some parts of Vancouver on the other hand have been without power for 3 days already – and some won’t be able to turn on their electric stove till late Wednesday according to the BC Hydro Company. 2000 customers were without power there. The traffic lights didn’t work and absolute chaos resulted. I’m glad that didn’t happen here! Could you imagine being without traffic lights for 3 whole days?

Lake Winnipeg Water safe for swimming
As reported yesterday by Water Stewartship and Manitoba water testing branch, the beaches and the Lake are safe for swimming. The E. coli bacteria (Escherichia coli) are within recreational water quality guidelines.

The Victoria Beach Police staff will be waiting on tables at the Idle Thyme Restaurant in Traverse Bay. Go by and check out whether they look just as smart in an apron, as they do in uniform.

Local weather forecast for the Eastern Beaches Area
Though it can be sunny at the Beaches the weather forcast for Southern Manitoba will predict rain. I wish Environment Canada would discover the area from Patricia Beach to Victoria Beach. Not even Grand Beach gets mentioned in 99% of the weather forecasts! A good place to check the current weather is our Eastern Beaches Website. Tornado Season has started in Manitoba
Though tornadoes (tornados? whats the proper plural?) are not really common in the Eastern Beaches Area of Manitoba, we all remember the twister that came down at Gull Lake two years ago, killing one person and our power and phone lines.

Internet access at the Lake
Looking for Internet Service at the Beach at Lake Winnipeg. This August my contract with the Internet Service Provider will expire and I am looking to find something better, or at least an alternative. So if anybody has some good recommendations please tell me.
