I've tried to keep this blog focussed on issues that have to do with our local area, but this just bugs me too much! Mr. Helmut Oberlander was found guilty today of of making a false statement on his application for Canadian citizenship in 1954. I believe 95% of the people who will read this were not even born back then.

Listeriosis, another food scare in Canada this summer

First it was tomatoes from the States with salmonella, then salmonella in Cilantro now its listeriosis in meat products! This last food scare is the worst yet. Quite a few people have actually died from food poisoning and the resulting infection. The problem seems to originate from a Maple Leaf processing plant in Toronto.

Blackouts and power outages after high winds

For most of us in this area the outages only lasted for a few hours. Some parts of Vancouver on the other hand have been without power for 3 days already - and some won't be able to turn on their electric stove till late Wednesday according to the BC Hydro Company. 2000 customers were without power there. The traffic lights didn't work and absolute chaos resulted. I'm glad that didn't happen here! Could you imagine being without traffic lights for 3 whole days?
