I know it is still a bit early in the year, but does anybody know some good places for blueberry and huckleberry picking. I will be having a visitor over who is nuts about blueberries, blueberry pie and huckleberry pancakes.

We used to go blueberry picking on Elk Island and along Hwy 59, just south of the turnoff for Belair.

Does anybody have some other good places they can recommend?

We used to go to an area between Prawda and Sandilands. We would just turn off one of the gravel roads on the south side of Hwy. 1. Haven’t been in years, though. Lots of Saskatoon berry picking farms in MB, but no blueberry farms that I’ve been able to find. If you find a good spot, let me know. As I remember, though, my granny was pretty tight-lipped in mixed company about where her picking patch was located….

Hi Srennie,

thanks for the information.

Your granny was right. Real berry pickers keep their good patches secret. 🙂

Checked out the Beach for the first time in 2013

The Beach is still there and if the sun were shining it would be really inviting. The water ist absolutely freezing though. The ice just came off a bit over a week ago.

Trip to Elk Island looking for Chanterelles

As my mother is over visiting I thought it might be a nice idea to take the canoe to Elk Island. We packed the canoe on the roof of the Jeep and drove to the boat launch across from the island.
