I’ve tried to keep this blog focussed on issues that have to do with our local area, but this just bugs me too much!
Mr. Helmut Oberlander was found guilty today of of making a false statement on his application for Canadian citizenship in 1954. I believe 95% of the people who will read this were not even born back then.
Despite the financial crisis in the US that is causing real estate prices to hit rock bottom there – Winnipeg property prices have soared up by 78% in the last four years.
First it was tomatoes from the States with salmonella, then salmonella in Cilantro now its listeriosis in meat products! This last food scare is the worst yet. Quite a few people have actually died from food poisoning and the resulting infection.
The problem seems to originate from a Maple Leaf processing plant in Toronto.
How twisted are these people that belong to the Westboro Baptist Church? They use a dreadful slaying on a Greyhound Bus for their hate mongering.
These people are just as wacky and dangerous as the original perp.
On the other hand Saskatchawan is expected to lead the economic growth followed closely by Manitoba.
Does that mean all the Manitobans that moved to Alberta will be coming back? Or better yet, does it mean that Manitoba can follow Alberta’s lead and lower or abolish PST? Lower income tax?
Folklorama has started. It even brought us an important visitor to our Province. Prime Minister Stephen Harper dropped by on his way back to Ottawa, to try and rally some Filipino voter support for his next election.

My next problem was Cilantro. Now what the heck might that be. I had to check it up. Cilantro is actually the name of the plant that produces the Coriander seeds. I like using freshly crushed dried Coriander for Lamb Provencial, together with fresh rosemary, thyme and garlic in a red wine marinade. Does that mean I have to leave out the coriander seeds, or is just the green part of the plant infected? (which I have never used anyway)
They reported they had thought of chasing the Sasquatch, but were too unnerved by the sighting and even gave up their berry picking. The creature had really scared them, especially when they returned later with others and found a large, six-toed footprint.
The Icelandic Festival or Islendingadagurinn starts today in Gimli. It is the 119th occurance of this annual festival.
